What started out as a behind the scenes look at the making of SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY, took off on a life of its own as director Alex Chisholm documented the struggles of independent horror filmmakers from around the world. Chisholm followed filmmakers Karim Hussain and Mitch Davis as they took time off from their six-year cinematic endeavor to become programmers for the International section of Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. Chisholm’s camera captured candid moments during 1997’s Fantasia as many of the genre’s great independent directors came to Montreal to screen their films. Interviews include directors Richard Stanley (Hardware), Nacho Cerda (Aftermath), Todd Morris and Deborah Twiss (Gun for Jennifer), Jim Van Bebber (Charlie’s Family), Mariano Baino (Dark Waters), and Deep Red Magazine editor Chas Balun. For those who are interested on what goes on behind the scenes with some of the genres most talented independent directors, IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST is an exclusive look at the hardships of those who choose to express themselves within the horror genre. The goriest documentary to ever be completed with the participation of the National Film Board of Canada.
