CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST has received many lowbrow reviews, depreciating its value as a true statement on the world we live in. Sure there is enough gore, sex and sleaze to please everyone, but the underlying message of the films bleeds right through all of the above. Four filmmakers go missing after traveling into the jungles of South America to document the last known tribe of cannibal. When they are not heard from for six month, their producers hire a search team to head into the jungle to hopefully find them and bring them out alive. No one could have imagined what they would come across in the middle of the jungle, nor could they have fathomed the horrors they would discover. To say anymore would ruin it for everyone.
CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is the pick of the litter when it comes to ‘cannibal’ films and possibly the greatest film ever made by Ruggero Deodato. Part of his jungle trilogy, which also includes JUNGLE HOLOCAST and CUT AND RUN.
