Canada, 2000, Directed by Karim Hussain
35mm, 80 minutes, screening Wednesday, Oct 27th at 9:00 pm

Taking six years to complete, SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY stands as one of the most surreal independent horror films to ever have such a bloody and difficult birth into the Canadian film scene. As seen in documentary IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST, director Karim Hussain (Ascension) had to deal with many demands while struggling to get his debut film completed. SUBCONCSIOUS CRUELTY is an anthology film that holds on tight and twists until it bleeds through the relationships found within visceral horror and the subconscious. The first segment involves a young boy and his visions of masturbation and fetal dissection toward his sister and her unborn child. The other segments contain the actual desecration of the body of Christ, the obsessed incarnation of one man’s infatuation with a media figure, fornication with nature and many other visual stimuli. Hussain takes the viewer through an uncompromising array of imagery meant to entice and offend while unfolding a landscape filled with carnage and carnality that will evoke some sort of reaction, whether positive or negative, from every viewer.
